Morlock is a mage of the Seers of the Moonstone living on the sixth level of the Abyss. He appears in Ultima Underworld and is the keeper of the Book of Honesty.

Description[edit]

When the Avatar encountered Morlock the mage expressed a non sequitur expectation that the hero have a delivery for him. Once contacting Bronus, the Avatar gave Morlock the book received from the other mage. Morlock strangely congratulated the Avatar on slaying an eight-headed fire hydra, something on which the Avatar corrected the mage. Morlock thus revealed that it had been the second part of the test of Honesty, a test the Avatar had passed, and he felt that the hero thus deserved the Book of Honesty. His hints about a hourglass and a key proved to be a code for rooms shaped like that.

Later, Garamon rescued him when the volcano erupted.

Lore[edit]

Here resides another mage, named Morlock. His own magical researches are stalled, for he awaits an important book now held by Bronus. It is said of Morlock that he knows the true location of Sir Cabirus’ Book of Honesty, but he is too busy with his researches to do anything worrisome with it.

Trivia[edit]

  • If the Avatar dishonestly claims to have slain a hydra, Morlock will then deceive the Avatar as to the whereabouts of the Book.
  • It is possible that Morlock is or was at one time intended to be the guildmaster of the Seers of the Moonstone. This comes from a summoned mage who spouts several random lines, including this one: "I have no time for thee. Speak to Morlock, the Guildmaster."
