Frontis is a small druid living in Cove during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Frontis served as a greeter to people that arrive to Cove, "the hidden city of wisdom". He could recommend that the Stranger visit Cove's healers and its shrine.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Frontis can be identified with the druid in the same location, who gives the same information.[2]
- In the document discovered by historians Robert de Main and Carlotta Stein which purports to be the Avatar’s personal diary, the Stranger meets Frontis while he is conversing with Blissful – alerting the hero as to the seahorse's capability of speech. He and Blissful then go on to jovially discuss the Temple of the Virtues and its mysterious Ankh before Blissful dives under the water, splashing Frontis as she leaves.[3]
- Frontis' name may be derived from the word frontis, Latin for "of the front", implying the entrance or frontal part of something. This fits this character, as he is at Cove's entrance, acting as its greeter.
