The Ankh (known as the Ankh of Knowledge in the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV) is a shining ankh that could be found in the Temple of the Virtues in Cove during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Should the Stranger hear from the sapient seahorse Blissful of the enshrined ankh's knowledge of the innermost chamber of the Abyss, which held the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, the adventurer would have cause to address the otherwise insensate object. Once spoken to, the strange construct would reveal that the aspirant hero must be eight parts an Avatar, possess the Key of Three Parts, know the Word of Passage, and be aware of the pure axiom before the Codex would be revealed.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV, the ankh only says that the stones open the way for the chamber of the Great Stygian Abyss. In fact, the Key of Three Parts is obtained using said stones, but the Word of Passage and the pure axiom were omitted from the remake.[2]
- In the alleged journal of the Avatar discovered by historians Robert DeMain and Carlotta Stein, the Stranger claims not to recall any conversations with the mysterious ankh, recalling only that it imparted knowledge of the Codex.[3]
- Other sapient ankhs found in Ultima IV include the Ankh of Spirituality, Life and (in the Nintendo remake only) the Ankh of the Future.
