Cat, from Ultima VII manual
First appearance: Ultima VI
Last appearance: Serpent Isle

Small and domestic felines, cats are perfectly adapted to live in human cities.

Description[edit]

These felines have been domesticated in the ancient past and are thus mainly known to people as pets. Their main occupation is catching mice, thus acting as an effective pest control. Dogs and cats live in mutual dislike to each other and make no secret of it. Cats, due to their domestication, are usually found in the cities and only very rarely in the wilderness, though some are known to have grown wild.

Lore[edit]

Cat2.gif
Among the most common of domesticated beasts, the cat is often found prowling about alleys and storefronts, looking for bits of food or hapless mice.
A domestic animal commonly found in city alleyways, this creature preforms an invaluable service in continuously thinning the rat population.
The stereotyped familiar of wizened mages (another myth I hope to dispel), cats populate the nooks and crannies of every area of civilization. Little more than a nuisance, they do seem to possess the cunning necessary to survive in big cities.

Trivia[edit]

  • Dr. Cat, the proprietor of The Cat's Lair in Paws, is characterized by his love of felines.
  • Persistently double-clicking on cats in Ultima VII Part Two eventually causes them to explode and a companion to subsequently yell, "Bloody cats!".
  • In Ultima VII Part Two, there is a cat named "Smudge" (NPC 261) found in Monitor, who has way more health than a regular cat.
