Ultima VII

Blorn is a man living in Vesper in Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

A vehement and uncompromising racist regarding the Gargish race, Blorn's extremism proved unsettling even to many humans dwelling in Vesper, despite the bigotry which pervaded the small mining town at the time.[1][2][3] Bitter and seemingly jobless, Blorn could often be found in the Gilded Lizard in the company of its proprietor, Yongi.

Should the Avatar speak to the man regarding the gargoyles, the man would pointedly ask if the hero were a "gargoyle lover." If given a negative reply, the man would ask the hero to help him, claiming to have suffered a nearly lethal unprovoked assault at the hands of a gargish miner named Lap-Lem. Asking the Avatar to assassinate his attacker, Blorn would instruct the hero to refrain from mentioning his name, citing that the murderous gargoyle would undoubtedly attack were he thus provoked.[4]

Going to Lap-Lem, the Avatar could choose to ignore Blorn's advice and ask about the incident, finding that the gentle miner had acted in self-defense in the midst of being robbed by the hateful man. Ashamed to have been involved in violence, Lap-Lem would petition the hero to to attempt to negotiate for his stolen property - an amulet of sentimental value.[5]

Returning to Blorn, the champion of virtue could insist the man return the locket, drawing all manner of vitriolic epithets from the spiteful man as he grudgingly returned the property.[6]

Lore[edit]

And waste not thy time speaking with Blorn, for he is a fool, and perhaps a thief. Our trainer has confided to me that he once saw Blorn climbing from the provisioner's window late at night.

Trivia[edit]

  • The hero may, of course, opt to slay Lap-Lem on Blorn's behalf, which will draw congratulations from the avowed racist.[7]
  • Liana mentions to Anton that she believes she has sighted Blorn climbing out of the window of Eldroth's provisions shop at night, and warns the scholar to avoid the ner'do'well.[8]
  • Blorn incorrectly gives the meaning of Lap-Lem's name as "Man Slayer." In reality, the name translates to "Rock One" or "Stony One." ("Man Slayer" would be rendered as something akin to "Hiuman-In-Korp-Lem.")
