Bandages are an inexpensive way of treating wounds.
Description[edit]
Bandages are a basic tool of every healer, which are used to dress wounds in order to cover them, which not only prevents the body from bleeding out, but also helps in keeping the wound from being infected. Additionally, these healing tools are easy to produce; a cunning adventurer can use shears and cloth to produce bandages easily and thus save much money which otherwise would have gone into expensive healing potions.
Bandages as such were known to the adventurers from Earth in Savage Empire and could be produced by using the scissors from Dr. Rafkin on cloth. By Ultima VII bandages had become common in Britannia as well and they were also encountered on the Serpent Isle.
Lore[edit]
“ | As long as one has shears, cloth, and a conscious mind, thou wilt have little fear of bleeding to death on the corpse-littered fields of battle. Simply cut the cloth into strips and bandages. Quickly placing the center of the bandage over the wound, wrap the strip around and around the bleeding area. As the cloth begins to soak up the blood, it will combine with the natural healing aspects of the body to staunch the flow of blood and to quicken the healing process. In no time at all, thou wilt be ready to travel again (though I advise this travel to be to the house of a competent healer!). – from The Art of Field Dressing (Ultima VII)

Trivia[edit]
- In Ultima VII and Ultima VII Part Two, bandages in terms of mechanics work exactly the same as yellow potions or the spell Heal.
- Cloth is found easily and can also be bought cheaply from Aurvidlem in Ultima VII and Topo in Ultima VII Part Two. The real problem is finding a pair of shears. In Ultima VII it pretty much means stealing a pair from a clothier while in Ultima VII Part Two, one pair can be found at the Inn of the Sleeping Bull in the stables.
