Conversation[edit]

Guildmaster Mariah: "What is this? This is not good, Stranger. I had hoped learning more about The Weep would help me fight it, but now I find the situation even more dire. I cannot cure The Weep. I do not believe anyone can."

You: "What can we do?" (Accept Quest)

Guildmaster Mariah: "We must attack the source: the daemons creating the contagion. I can create a spell to banish them back to the abyss. I will need three things: The Book of Truth, the Candle of Love and the Bell of Courage."

You: "Where can I find them?"

Guildmaster Mariah: "I cannot say. They are magical artifacts of immense power. Your best bet to find someone who knows where they now lie... ask the Queen's head of security and overseer of whisperers, Baron Sentri."

You: "Where can I find Baron Sentri?" (Story)

Guildmaster Mariah: "Ever since the Old Lord went away, Baron Sentri has taken it upon himself to watch over Lady British personally. You're likely to find him in the Grand Hall of Castle Britannia, near the Queen."

You: "I'll speak with Baron Sentri then." (Advance Quest)

...

Baron Sentri: "Hello, Stranger. I've not much time to chat. Security has been much tighter around here since The Weep started in on the realm. I will guarantee the safety of Lady British no matter what."

You: "I'm looking for the Bell, the Book and the Candle." (Advance Quest)

Baron Sentri: "Ah, haven't heard anyone mention those together in a good long while... How can those help you?"

You: "We may be able to use them to banish the Daemons." (Advance Quest)

Baron Sentri: "Grim news, Stranger, but it was always the possibility no one liked to admit. Right then, we must soldier on! I'll help you find the Bell, the Book and the Candle as best I can."

You: "Where can I find the Bell of Courage?" (Story)

Baron Sentri: "I believe it was given to one of the noble families to keep safe, but I'd have to do some asking around to find out whom. You'd best look into the theft of the Book of Truth while I sort this out."

You: "Where can I find the Candle of Love?" (Story)

Baron Sentri: "The Candle... no one has heard talk of it for years. I'll have to do some research, Stranger. You'd best look into the theft of the Book of Truth first."

You: "Where can I find the Book of Truth?" (Advance Quest)

Baron Sentri: "The Book of Truth was housed in the Lycaeum but was stolen not long ago. Actually, Stranger, there is a fence sitting in the Castle cells. If the Book was sold, it could have passed through him."

You: "Where can I find the Castle cells?" (Story)

Baron Sentri: "Head near the entrance of the Castle, and take the east stairs into the tower. We don't have many cells; he won't be hard to find."

You: "What about the Bell and the Candle?" (Story)

Baron Sentri: "Chase down the lead on the Book of Truth, while you're away I'll have my men see if they can dig anything up on the Bell of Courage and the Candle of Love."

You: "I'll go and speak with the fence." (Advance Quest)

...

Durham: "Stranger! The guards will listen to you! I'm innocent, I swear. I'm an honest adventuring salesman. Please, get me out of here, or at least get me some decent food! A man cannot live on kedgeree alone!"

You: "I'm looking for the Book of Truth. It was stolen from the Lycaeum." (Advance Quest)

Durham: "The Book of Truth? I... uh... have... erm... no memory of anything like that... but maybe a decent meal would jog my memory. Something with meat... maybe a steak?"

(You have three choices:)

  • "You aren't really in a position to negotiate. Tell me what you know!" (+Justice)
  • "Maybe I could arrange for something good sent up." (Accept Quest)
  • "How about the Folley Filet? It's the best dish in Paws, I hear." (+Justice)

(regardless of the choice, he will tell you about the book.)

Durham: "The Book passed through my hands. Thief didn't know what he had, and I got it for a song. Sold it to one of the Order of the Purple Rose, but most are dead and buried in the tomb in the Woods of Woe now."

You: "Who are the Order of the Purple Rose?" (Story)

Durham: "Don't you mean who 'were' they? Only one left now, and he's half lost his mind. They were an order of Paladin's, renown for their honor."

You: "Where can I find the Woods of Woe?" (Story)

Durham: "That cursed place is up to the Northeast past the High Hills. Watch yer' back stranger - them woods was bad even before the Weep came."

You: "I'll head into the Woods of Woe then." (Advance Quest)

Durham: "Paladin's didn't have much, whatever they did was probably buried with them. I'd have a look through coffins if I was you, unless you shy away from a bit of grave robbery."

You: "Farewell."

...

(text needed)

...

Jingles: "Stranger, you are amazing! I watched from my window and it was terrifying, but you were triumphant! I wish I had your courage, truly."

You: "Now you're end of the deal. The Clapper please." (Advance Quest)

Jingles: "Oh yes, of course... though the fool in me wonders how Jingles is supposed to jingle without his Clapper. But, a dead is a deal. Here you are, Stranger. Thank you."

You: "Amusing. Farewell."

(You now carry the complete Bell of Courage.)

...

Guildmaster Mariah: "You've returned! Unbelievable, you have all three! Tell me, were they difficult to find?"

You: "You have no idea." (Complete Quest)

Guildmaster Mariah: "You've done well Stranger! I've been busy while you've been away. Our books on banishing daemons are strangely missing... but there is a Druid who is said to know the Stygian Arts."

(You are now assigned the quest The Silver Horn)
