Conversation[edit]

Lady British: "I need your help, Stranger. The Black Weep plague is tearing my Kingdom apart. People like you, heroes from Earth, cannot catch The Weep. Please, help stop this plague and restore peace to Britannia."

Lady British: "People are terrified of The Black Weep. It's not safe anywhere. Even here, in my castle, infection festers amongst the people. How can I restore hope if I can't keep the plague from my own household?"

You: "What is so bad about The Weep?" (Story)

Lady British: "The Weep is highly contagious and always fatal. Even worse are the sufferers of The Weep who return from death frenzied, violent and often headless."

You: "What can I do to help?" (Accept Quest)

Lady British: "There is... a Weep Slime... in our sewers. We hear it moving. I have sent men to deal with it, and all have died. Please, go to the sewers and get rid of it."

You: "As you wish..."

...

Darell: "You there! I hope you're here to finish the job. A massive slime is down here that needs to be killed."

(You have the choice to show Honour, Valour, or Humility. Regardless of your choice, you are awarded experience to reach level 3.)

Darell: "Go on then, leap across! Mind the boiling hot steam."

You: "Leap across, right..." (Advance Quest)

Darell: "Just leave me. I've got to wait for anyone else brave enough to stumble in. Can't have every hero being stopped by a simple pool of sewer water!"

...

Weep covered corpse: [Searching through the bloated rotting corpse, you ding an Envelope addressed to Slysam.]

Weep covered corpse: "Slysam, smuggle one of Fleck's 'special barrels' into Castle Britannia and pour it out. Be careful - there's an infected slime inside. Remember, we've been paid to spread The Weep, not catch it ourselves! Come back to Luckless Keep when you're done."

You: [Pocket the Orders] (Advance Quest)

...

You: "Lady British requests guardsmen to Luckless Keep."

Borgia: "So the honourless bandits of Luckless have been paid to spread The Weep? I would like to storm the place, but we are spread thin as it is. Too many guards are Weep-striken. You'll just have to do..."

You: "I'll head to Luckless Keep now."

...(text needed)...

Borgia: "This is Stygian Gold. Daemons are the only ones who use that metal. Take that coin to Zair the Wise of Paws. It is said he knows about these things and... well, I daren't touch it to be honest."

...

Zair the Wise: "Mmm? You are a new face... Most people do not even pause to visit the Folley these days, and that fillet is something else. Sorry, I've digressed. What brings you to Paws, Stranger."

You: [Show the coin and explain the situation.]

Zair the Wise: "Mmm? Why should I help you? What have you done for Paws lately? Eh? Go help Kristin and Raskin, and while you are at it see if you can find out who broke into the Folley Tavern."

You: "Sounds fair enough. I'll be back soon." (Advance Quest)

...

Zair the Wise: "Mmm? Well, I hear you've been helping out around here. Eh? What can old Zair help you with?"

You: [Show the coin and explain the situation.] (Advance Quest)

Zair the Wise: "Mmm? You found this in Luckless Keep, eh? If I'm not mistaken... mmm... and I very rarely am... that carries the mark of a gazer daemon named Mimmoro."

You: "What are gazers?" (Story)

(text)

You: "Who is Mimmoro?" (Advance Quest)

Zair the Wise: "He's a gazer, or eye daemon. He is cowardly, but highly intelligent. I think he is a servant of Horrath... but my information might be out of date. Lady British would know who to ask."

You: "On my way."

...

Lady British: "What news of Luckless Keep, Stranger? Have you found out who paid to have The Weep slime smuggled into the Castle?"

You: "The coin came from a daemon named Mimmoro." (Advance Quest)

Lady British: "More daemons? Having Horrath around was bad enough... I'm beginning to worry that the whole Stygian Abyss is against us. We must prepare for the worst."

(You have a Quandry:)

  • "I'm ready to fight!" (+Valour)
  • "That sounds ominous..." (+Honesty)
  • "The daemons will regret this." (+Justice)

Lady British: "Daemons are weak against people who know the Virtues. I want you to learn more about the way of the Avatar. The Virtues may well be the weapon that helps us defeat Horrath."

You: "How do I do that?"

Lady British: "Go to Master Barren in Skara Brae. He is a great teacher. They say he even taught the First Avatar the ways of Spirituality. Meanwhile, I will have the Rangers Guild research this Mimmoro."

You: "I will seek him out. Farewell." (Complete Quest)

(You are automatically assigned the quest A Strange Disease.)
