The Candle of Love is an artifact that symbolizes the Principle of Love. Following the Quest of the Avatar, the Candle of Love was lost. Baron Sentri sends potential Avatars to Empath Abbey, in the hopes of locating Derek, the last guardian of the Candle.
Unfortunately, Derek had perished in his task, and his spirit was unwilling to part with the Candle until things in Empath Abbey were once again set right.
