The Oaken Oar is a shipwright in East Britanny. This establishment appears during Ultima V and Ultima VI.

History[edit]

This shipwright was founded some time prior to the appearance of the Shadowlords. During Ultima V, was run by Master Hawkins, who had made plans that could improve a frigate significantly, but hid them away. With the following growth of Britain, the shipbuilding facilities were relocated further into Britanny Bay to be closer to the core city. By Ultima VI, the store was run by the mute Arty, who could only communicate with sign language.

While Britain held onto its shipbuilding facilities into the Age of Armageddon, it is unknown if it still was the Oaken Oar, or a successor.

Lore[edit]

East Britanny's local economy revolves around the trade at the Oaken Oar, one of the most respected shipwrights in the land.

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.

In The Ultima 6 Project, prior to freeing the five shrines on mainland Britannia from the Gargoyles, Arty would have no ships available to sell for they were requisitioned by Lord British for the war effort, as he would give the Avatar to understand. Afterwards, Arty gladly sold his ships to the hero, but had no skiffs available – much to Dupre’s relief.
