Arty is the shipwright at The Oaken Oar in Britain in Ultima VI.

Arty the mute was a silent, goodnatured shipwright who seemed well respected by Dupre and the people of Britain. Despite his handicap, he was able to sell the Avatar the deed for a ship or a skiff through the use of a small chalkboard. However, his inability to speak ensured the hero learned little else about him.[1]
Ultima 6 Project[edit]
This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.
In The Ultima 6 Project, prior to freeing the five shrines on mainland Britannia from the Gargoyle menace, Arty would have no ships available to sell for they were requisitioned by Lord British for the war effort, as he would give the Avatar to understand. Afterwards, Arty gladly sold his ships to the hero, but had no skiffs available - much to Dupre's relief.
