Article's name[edit]

Why is this article called "Unlock"? In U4 the spell is called "Open", and in U5 is called An Sanct or Negate Protection. I don't see it called "Unlock" anywhere. Ok, "Unlock" sounds similar to the more advanced "Unlock Spell", but I don't think that is justification enough. Is there any other reason? Otherwise, I think we should rename it to Open.--Sega381 08:18, 25 February 2011 (PST)

I believe the editor is going by the effect column on the Ultima V Reference Card, which reads "unlock," but seeing as all these are listed in lower case, they aren't really titles/names. I would move it to "Open" and give it a redirect from An Sanct and Negate Protection. --polygoncount (Polygon Dragon -==(UDIC)==-) 11:22, 25 February 2011 (PST)
Ok, done!--Sega381 11:53, 25 February 2011 (PST)

Open Spell is Not Safe (U4)[edit]

That's right. You mix the ingredients, you spend the MP and when you are done, you are just as likely to blow yourself up, or poison your party. In fact, if a human opened a trapped chest there was always a chance the he might disarm the trap. I don't remember such fortune ever befalling a spell caster. This is in direct contraction to what I read in The Book of Mystic Wisdom, which promises that the spell will render the trap harmless.

The reason I'm talking about this, rather than just editing the article, is that it seems so outrageous that I have to second guess my interpretation of the spell. In fact, it wouldn't even be a nitpick, it would be a blatant ripoff! Furthermore, if it's so obvious, why hasn't it been included among the nitpicks long ago? I should also point out that IIRC, I found the same phenomenon in both the Apple and PC versions. I guess what Hitler said was right: people are more likely to believe a big lie than a small one. Color me confused. I've only tried the spell out on only a handful so far on the PC (13 chests, 4 were trapped) and I've successfully evaded all the traps. So I tried the Apple version long enough to run into one trap (which was also evaded). This supports my memory of the spell still causing the trap to be displayed but it always being successfully evaded when using the spell. I'll poke at it some more though since 5 is hardly statistically significant. -- Fenyx4 06:42, 31 May 2011 (PDT)
