Rabbit
Rabbit, from Ultima VII manual
First appearance: Ultima VI
Last appearance: Serpent Isle

Rabbits are peaceful animals, and usually not a threat to people.

Description[edit]

While not a threat to people themselves, they are, however, a serious threat to the carrots and other green foods which farmers grow in their fields. Their hunger for these is legendary and can cause serious damage. Thankfully, something as simple as a fence can hold them off.

They can be found in the wilderness or near fields.

Lore[edit]

Though quite shy and non-threatening, these long-eared creatures are the bane of farmers, whose crops attract them in hordes.
This fast, long-eared animal lives primarily on the carrots grown by local farmers.
Another scavenging rodent, the rabbit is quite fond of the carrots found on many farms.

Notable Examples[edit]

  • Sutek the mage did numerous experiments on animals on Terfin in Ultima VI. One of the results are the "killer bunnies," a horde of rabbits, who are extremely aggressive and attack the party on sight. This may be a reference to the killer rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, considering past Monty Python nods in the series.
  • Buggs: a rabbit-shaped animal appearing in the menagerie of the insane Lorthondo the magician

Trivia[edit]

  • Killing a rabbit and then gutting it in Ultima VII and Ultima VII Part Two for some reason nets the Avatar 1 unit of beef.
  • A rabbit-shaped rock is found in Ultima IX near the Yew moongate.
