Species: automaton
Appearances
Ultima VII Part Two
Location: Temple of Logic

The numbered automatons are a group of seven automatons found at the Temple of Logic, who are set apart by each of them having a number on their forehead. They are found in Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

These automatons were tasked with guarding the prison of the Bane of Insanity, but failed in their task when Batlin broke it open anyway. When the Avatar later entered the temple to get the water of logic, No. 7, the keeper of the key to the water, had went missing, having been murdered by No. 4. The Avatar listened to the various testimonies of the remaining six automatons. No.4's missing alibi was subsequently discovered by checking all these testimonies and it was destroyed after admitting to the crime and the key to the next puzzle was found on the corpse.

Testemonies[edit]

No.1: "I cannot make any accusations, but we are incapable of leaving our post. Something dire must have happened to Number 7. I am restricted from taking action against any of my fellows, so it is up to thee to determine what hath befallen the keeper of the key. For my part, I can say that I was with Number 2 and Number 6 when last we saw Number 7."
No.2: "All I remember is that I was with Number 1 when last we saw Number 7. I wonder where he hath gone?"
No.3: "Something must have happened to Number 7. Let me think, I was with Number 5 the last time any of us saw Number 7... and that was quite some time ago."
No.4: "The last time any of us saw Number 7, I was with Number 2... And that was some time ago."
No.5: "But no, that cannot be. For Number 7 disappeared the day I was with Number 3, long before the strange mage came."
No.6: "None of us have seen Number 7 since the day that I was with Number 1."

Trivia[edit]

  • An alternate solution is, to find the remains of No. 7 in the ice caves before the shrine, which are hidden behind a secret passage. After usage of Create Automaton, it will give a direct witness account of the crime, thus incriminating No.4.
  • Casting Vibrate on No.4 is another way to get the key without much hassle.
  • Should the Avatar accuse No.4 without having heard all the testimonies first, the automaton will call out the hero on it, before admitting to the crime anyway.
