Template talk:Main
Can I ask what the hell this is supposed to be?--Tribun 18:55, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
It appears to be a small indented link to a topic. So if you entered:
{{main|Age of Darkness}}
it would appear as:
- Main article: Age of Darkness
Some wiki's prefer this method, and some prefer the way the History of Britannia topic was before, with links in the main headings. Its up to the admins to decide which way to go. I'm sure the author would be able to shed some light on if this template has any more importantance than this, however.Browncoat Jayson 19:11, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
It does break the site's formatting. Back when I deced with the admin on the page formatting, we agreed that the history and several articles are to be formatted like they had been. Not that I want to attack anyone personally, but I undid the change.--Tribun 19:24, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Allowing for specialized link text[edit]
As you can see, I tried to make for specialized link text. Using Shame as a sandbox (!) I found it worked sort of w/{{main|Shame (Ultima IV)|Shame {{Ultima IV}}}} (I couldn't de-italicize "Ultima IV") but was a disaster w/{{main|Dungeon Solution for Ultima V#Shame{{!}}Shame (Ultima V)}}. Sigh! I guess I'll just have to brush up on my Wikimedia. The Ultra-Mind (talk) 20:02, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- And I did. The problem is once you've wrapped a link in italics, you cannot deitalicize any of the link text. Now by shutting off the italics before the link, the link text can be italicized and de-italicized at will. The Ultra-Mind (talk) 21:32, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
