Teleport pads
Teleport pads are essentially stationary teleporters that one enters, to get transported to a different location. There are two different kind of them.
Eodon[edit]
On Eodon, they were an invention of the inhabitants of the ancient city of Kotl. Stepping on one teleports the person to a teleport hub north of the Sakkhra Tribe, from where the other teleport pads can be accessed. A similar system can be found inside the city itself as well for fast transportation between districts.
In Savage Empire, the Avatar used these platforms to great effect to quickly travel through Eodon. However, the teleport plaza was located next to two entrances to the Myrmidex Caves, so trouble with its inhabitants was common. Also, the teleporter of the Old Pindiro Village was defunct for unknown reasons, thus that location was deactivated on the plaza. Even after the destruction of Kotl, the outside platforms still worked, thus they had to have an independent power supply.
Teleport Locations[edit]
Here are the locations for the different pads:
- A – Kurak Tribe
- B – Nahuatla Tribe
- C – Jukari Tribe
- D – Disquiqui Tribe
- E – Barrab Tribe
- F – Sakkhra Tribe
- G – Barako Tribe
- Defunct – once lead to the Old Pindiro Village
Lore[edit]
“ | Don’t ask me how these work. All I know is that you step on one of these plates, and you step off somewhere else. (Instantaneous teleportation? Mass hypnotism and a work-crew with wheelbarrows? I have no idea.) These are large, flat plates with rippling blue surfaces. They occur in “mated pairs”: Step on one, and you appear on its mate somewhere else; step on that one again, and you reappear on the first one.

Britannia, Serpent Isle and Pagan[edit]
In Britannia and on Serpent Isle, teleport pads are used as stand-alone devices.
Usually, the target location does not have a receiving pad, and if it does, it mostly is not two-way. Only seldomly are teleport routes truly two-way. Usage is simple; just stepping onto them is enough. Due to the fact one cannot know in advance where a teleport platform leads to, it is very possible to land in a very uncomfortable to downright lethal situation on arrival.
Teleport platforms like that first appeared in Ultima VII and were also seen in Ultima VII Part Two. By the time of Ultima IX their usage had become inflationary.
On Pagan, in Ultima VIII, the more common teleport pads were receiving devices used in connection with a recall item, although pads similar to those in Britannia and on Serpent Isle were known.
Trivia[edit]
- Looking closely at the teleport pads in Ultima IX, one can see that on the sides, there is runic written onto it. It is the word "teleport", being repeated several times.
