Talk:Words of Power (disambiguation)
Why "Words of Power" for magic?[edit]
I just released that I don't know why we use that term for casting spells. AFAIK, the only sourced use of that term is for the opening of the dungeons as given in U5 but I don't know why we use it for spells.
Confusingly, Template:Infobox/Spells has the parameters "incantation" and "words", the former for Sosarian spells and the latter for everything else. This is also connected to a hodge-podge of articles w/"Words of Power" in their names, which criss-cross the various forms of magic. Since there's so much overlap between the pseudo-Latin Words of Power from U5 onward, I don't think there needs to be a section in all these articles dedicated to Words of Power. So there are 2 things like I'd like do:
- Remove "Words of Power" from everything except the one for dungeon-openings and replace the term with "incantation".
- All post-U4 incantations condensed into 1 article. I'd also go so far as to have incantations from all the games in that article.

- Looking over the manuals, I see that several do use the term "Words of Power" but they aren't very clear about how to define it. They seem to use it interchangeably w/"syllable" and "incantations". So i think we should keep things like the redirects and this disambiguation, etc. but I propose that we come up with technical terms that we'll use in the wiki:
- "Syllable": for the pseudo-Latin it's pretty straighforward, but not really appropriate pre-U5
- "Incantation": the entire set of utterances to cast a single spell. This should apply to any game.
