Do we know all 10 of these were his crew?[edit]

I've scoured the transcript and the cluebook but I don't see how we can be sure that all these pirates were part of Hawkins's crew. The best arguments I can see being made:

  1. They are all pirates (I think)
  2. They all have some connection to the map
  3. They are all part of the "Pirates" entry in the cluebook's index, on page 78, but that doesn't include "unnamed pirate" which makes 11.

Unless there's something I've missed, I think we need to start eliminating pirates.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 15:50, 7 August 2024 (MDT)

I am afraid there is actually something you missed.
From the transcript: Homer: "I once sailed on the ship called 'Empire', under Captain Hawkins". His eyes light up with hatred. "That heartless bastard... He was killed by his own men, and it was no worse than he deserved". He hesitates, then adds quickly: "Of course, I had nothing to do with it". [...] "After Captain Hawkins passed away, we tore his treasure map into nine pieces. The plan was: when nobody was looking for us any more, we'd get together and go dig it up. Splitting up the map was my idea; that way nobody could doublecross the others".
Homer is obviously lying when he says: "I had nothing to do with the killing". Then, the "we" about tearing up the map refers to Trip Hawkins' own men, his own pirates who killed him, Homer included. Nine pirates with one piece of the map each, plus Trip Hawkins, plus the ship cook sums up to eleven. ---Abacos (talk) 04:46, 31 August 2024 (MDT)
