Talk:Elemental Titans (Pagan)
Disney quoted Ultima[edit]
I just learned that the Disney movie "Hercules" (it should be Heracles, by the way) has four titans whose names and elements match the Titans in Ultima 8. In Greek mythology, the titans were twelve and none of them associated with the four elements (also because the four elements were theorized by Aristotle, centuries after the Age of Mythology). Thus, Disney quoted Ultima VIII straight.
Someone on Pinterest knew it already: Disney Hercules Titans. ---Abacos (talk) 13:55, 20 September 2023 (MDT)
- I'll have to see the movie (again?) but from what I'm hearing, the connection is tempting to make, but it sounds like we would need to find something from or near to Disney that confirms it.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 14:36, 20 September 2023 (MDT)
- I learned from this video on Youtube (start at 20:52) that the Disney titans names are from a Disney bord game (scroll down for the image here). Two names are literal translations of the elements (hydros=water, pyros=fire), but it is hard to believe that both "Lithos" (stone) and the hodgepodge name "Stratos" (latin name of cloud layers with Greek suffix "-os") are a coincidence. ---Abacos (talk) 16:26, 20 September 2023 (MDT)
I just watched the movie again, and the credits, and I can tell you are very enthusiastic about this (and that you've already edited the Disney wiki) and I'm sorry, but I'm just not seeing it and here's why:
- The only titan name I caught was the cyclops
- The cyclops didn't appear to be the only titan that wasn't elemental
- Even if you can shoehorn someone with the name "Stratos" into the movie, it's not much of a coincidence. If you Google "stratos" you'll get a lot of hits that have nothing to do w/Ultima or Disney. I gotta restaurant because it appears there's one in my area. "Stratos" is just an intuitive name for a titan of air.
For these reasons I think we're off course on this one.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 13:51, 23 September 2023 (MDT)
