Renfry is a Serpent Islander who manages Monitor's Crematorium. He appears in Ultima VII Part Two.
Description[edit]
Renfry was a Knight of Monitor's Wolf Command who served as the community's undertaker. An old man at the time of the Avatar's landing on Serpent Isle, Renfry could prove a difficult conversationalist, being in possession of an inexact memory and having been rendered hard of hearing by the constant roar of the cremator.[1] He would eagerly tell the hero, however, about the nature of his work and of the reverence Monitorians had for the ashes of the dead, disclosing that the people of Monitor had deep respect for the mysticism of their funerary ceremonies, even if they eschewed magic proper.[2] He also was quick to mention that he had been authorized by Lord Marsten to distribute monetary rewards to any who brought back the body of a fallen pikeman for proper cremation and interment.[3]
Sometime prior to the Avatar's arrival, Renfry spent some time in Batlin's company, and he could relate that the sage had apparently been involved in a case of theft concerning the city's sculptor, Andral, although he knew little about the affair.[4]
Renfry eventually met his own death when Monitor fell to an army of Goblins and beasts, which were led against the city by Sir Dupre while he was possessed by the Bane of Wantonness.

For this to work, a dead pikeman (gender is irrelevant) has to be cremated and the Avatar has to have the urn in inventory when asking Renfry for payment. This has to be done one body at a time. The urn can be disposed of after payment – it is possible to incinerate it in the cremator.
Trivia[edit]
- Renfry will pay 100 monetari to the Avatar for each pikeman’s body brought to him and then cremated. A decidedly unvirtuous Avatar could exploit this source of money by killing some of the game's unnamed, respawning pikemen and profit from cremating them.
- Should the Avatar show Harnna the severed hand that a teleport storm exchanged for the hero's dagger, she will be surprisingly unfazed and will recommend consulting Renfry, who upon examining the hand will remark that it is still made of living flesh.[5][6]
- Finding Renfry's ashes in the crematorium after the city was sacked, it is probable considering the sadism of the invaders that either the Goblins, or even the Bane himself, burned Renfry alive in the crematorium machine.
