The pumping station on Mars is located at 19°N 167°W, west of Olympus. Its purpose is to pump the water from the reservoirs at the north pole into the channels that run around the planet. Without it, the channels stay dry.

History[edit]

In Martian Dreams, the Avatar had to enter the pumping station in order to fill the channels, after the lens towers had filled the reservoirs with water by melting part of the ice caps. However, as the robot Diver had cautioned them, the controls were behind a deadly steam leak. Only Chsheket's robot body could safely pass the leak and turn the controls, due to being made of metal. That enabled the canals to be re-filled and made barges usable again.

The building also housed a machine for spraying a durable rubber coating on robots to make them watertight. This coating, with the right ingredients, was used to make the robot bodies of the Martians look very human-like. Chsheket tested it out first to see if it worked properly.

Lore[edit]

The underground pumping station contained large holding tanks for the canal waters. The entrance was at the far right of the map, and the control console was at the far left. We met another mechanical man down here, not very informative, though he did divulge a bit of useful knowledge. We also found a rubber sprayer in the room to the lower right that later came in handy.
