Olympus is an old martian city on the Mars of the late 19th century.
Description[edit]
Olympus is, as the name already indicates, located on the northern hemisphere at the foot of the massive inactive volacano Olympus Mons with the Olympus Mons mines, at 10°N 110°W. A canal splits the city from south to north in two, and due to the lack of a bridge over it, one has to use a tunnel to reach the western part of the city and Olympus Mons itself.
History[edit]
Like all other cities on Mars, the inhabitants had to evacuate into the dreamscape when Raxachk released his deadly plague killing all Martians. When centuries later humans arrived on Mars by accident (such as they thought), they decided to make nearby Olympus their base. However, they became paranoid after martians from Elysium took over several people who were using the local Dream Machine. So their self-elected leader Jack Segal ordered the fortification of the city and smashing of the dream machine to pieces. Later raids from Raxachk's goos to steal supplies did not help their growing paranoia.
In Martian Dreams the Avatar at first couldn't enter the city, as people feared more takeovers of bodies and the gates were closed. They first had to get witness from three trustworthy people, Dr. David Yellin, Richard Sherman and Major Greg Duprey, before the party could enter. Once inside, it was the main base of the party for the duration of the quest, with many of its inhabitants proving useful on the quest in their own way. It also housed the new rocket ship the inhabitants were building in the nearby Olympus Mines. Once it was finished everyone left Mars with it.
