Markus is a child in Moonglow in Ultima IX.

Markus and his friend Tommy originally suspected the Avatar to be an impostor, and were skeptical of claims of authenticity. When questioned, the friends told the the Avatar that the town they were in was not Moonglow, but Yew, and that there was no one in Moonglow named “Tydus”.[1]
After the Shrine of Honesty was cleansed, Markus and Tommy both apologized for their actions, believing that when the Avatar was a stranger it was safest to lie, so that the Avatar would not hurt them.
