This article is about the character from Ultima IV. For other uses, see Linda (disambiguation).
Linda is a singer living in Cove during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
The Stranger could meet Linda outside of The Healer Shop, where she was singing with Paul. Linda would tell the hero that she sang about children, singing for the Stranger, "All round the world, little children being born to the world. Got to give them all we can 'til the quest is won, then will the work be done!" If asked about children further, the performer would exhort the hero to help the children by teaching them songs of joy.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (Japanese original), Linda can be identified with the bard near the edge of the woods (hence still near Paul). This character was removed in the English localization.
- Linda is a reference to Linda McCartney, wife of the singer Paul McCartney. Paul is a reference to her husband. The lines she sings are those following the ones Paul sings as part of his song "Pipes of Peace." In her lyrics, the word "quest" replaces the original word "war," probably as a reference to the Quest of the Avatar. Rabindranath Tagore, a character named for the Bengali poet from whom McCartney drew inspiration in composing the song, is also present. These NPCs were inspired by Richard Garriott’s fondness for the ex-Beatle's Pipes of Peace and Tug of War albums, which the Ultima creator had recently discovered.[2]
