Dr. Rafkin explains the production process

The Grenade is an improvised bamboo technology weapon in Savage Empire. It was devised by Dr. Rafkin, and the Avatar found these mainly of use to knock over several big trees and rocks in order to proceed on the quest.

After re-uniting with Dr. Rafkin, the Avatar's friend explained he could make various weapons from the things alone found in the valley of Eodon in order to not strain the limited supply of weapons from the modern world. For the creation of grenades, first a fitting container and a fuse were needed.

  • For the container, get a digging stick from a village (there are several) and dig at the shore of a rive to get clay. Form the clay into a pot (use) and then fire in in an active oven or a lava puddle to harden it into a pot.
  • For the fuse, get tar from the tar pit south of the Kurak Tribe with the metal bucket from the laboratory, then get flax from a yucca plant and weave it to cloth on the loom in Paxaptamac's shop. Cut the cloth with the scissors from the laboratory then use the bucket of tar on the cloth strips.

Of course the grenades still need gunpowder - five units for one grenade each - but thankfully, all the needed ingredients were easily found in Eodon.

  • Sulphur: Use the wire screen from the laboratory on the sulphur pools north of the Jukari Tribe or east of Nahuatla Tribe. (If it doesn't work on the large suphur pit, try a different side).
  • Charcoal: Cut wood off trees and use it on fires (like campfires).
  • Potassium Nitrate: 'Use' crystals in caves to gain this, but Dr. Rafkin is needed for that to identify the mineral.

Once all of that is gathered, all ingredients have to be put into the mortar from the laboratory and then mixed properly with it, resulting in the creation of the needed gunpowder.

Once that's done, the fuse is used with the pot to create to grenade (as long as enough gunpowder is present). Grenades are used by lighting the fuse and then throwing the grenade at the intended target.
