Description: burning fire
Location: Yew
Transcript: Flamis

Flamis is a burning fire somehow imbued with the power of speech. It could be found in Yew at the time of Ultima IV.

Description[edit]

Flamis was attended by two chanting druids and Jaana, in a small clearing in the groves surrounding the city of Justice. When addressed, the flame could speak, claiming that it held within it the fabric of the true nature of Justice, which draws its nature from the principles of Truth and Love.

When it asked if the Stranger had always been just, the hero had a choice as to whether or not to admit fallibility in that regard. Upon confessing imperfections, the living flame would express admiration at such Honesty. If claiming to be perfectly just, on the other hand, the flame would rebuke the boastful hero and lament the loss of Humility.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • Answering Flamis' question "Hast thou always been just?" affirmatively will cost the player five points of Humility. Answering it negatively will result in a gain of five points of Humility.
  • In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV, Flamis will claim to merely be a student of Justice, and will elaborate further on the boons of Honesty, claiming that "a single honest man is worth a hundred liars". A honest answer to its question will increase the Honesty virtue score, a proud answer will decrease it.[2]
