Faultless is a tall ghost who haunts the ruins of old Magincia during Ultima IV.
References[edit]
In its life, Faultless had been a criminal who was hung for its sin of Pride. It would ask if the Stranger too was proud and would express displeasure at any claim it deemed hubris. Following a tip from Heywood, the hero could ask the shade of the mantra of Humility, to which it would reply that the mantra of Pride, being the antithesis of Humility, was "MUL".[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Faultless can be identified with the skeleton in the same location. It tells the Stranger that a treasure lies hidden in the ruined city, and authorizes the hero to take it, as the people of Magincia no longer have use for it.[2]
- Answering Faultless' question "Art thou proud?" affirmatively will cost the player five points of Humility. Answering it negatively will result in a gain of five points of Humility.
