Cairbre is a fighter and mercenary from Jhelom questing in Dungeon Destard in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
During the time of the Avatar's quest, Cairbre and his partner Kallibrus were camped in Destard, where they were accompanying Cairbe's friend Cosmo in his attempts to find a unicorn. Cosmo had previously become smitten with an attractive bar hostess named Ophelia, who, not requiting his affections, had sent him on a fool's errand, asking that he find the mystical beast to prove his virginity.[1]
Cairbre was keen to Ophelia's deception, and hoped that he could eventually convince Cosmo to see reason and abandon the quest. Although his arguments had not yet been successful at the time when the Avatar spoke to him, he insisted on accompanying the young fighter anyway, in the hopes of at least keeping him out of danger.[2]
Trivia[edit]
- Cairbre is flustered when Kallibrus mentions that they have been "bonded," telling the gargoyle not to say such things lest people get the wrong idea. Precisely what Kallibrus means by this is never explained.[3]
- Cosmo will become upset if he is present while Cairbre dismisses him as a fool.[1]
- While it is possible for the Avatar to convince a unicorn known as Lasher to assist Cosmo in his task, the ultimate fate of Cosmo and Ophelia is never made explicit in the series.
