Altomar is a mage living in Britain during Ultima IX.
Description[edit]
The Avatar could initially find Altomar outside of the city's closed reagent shop. The mage would explain to the hero that the shop owner, Nico, had left Britain on a journey to Minoc to assist his brother, and that he was waiting for his return such that he could purchase appropriate reagents for his experiments. Altomar would go on to tell how magic appeared to be malfunctioning, and that it had become impossible to use the moongates, cast non-linear spells, or bind spells into a spellbook. Should the Avatar prove curious about the latter procedure (which had not been a Britannian magical practice during the hero's past visits to the realm) Altmor could offer up instructions as to how the Ritual of Binding worked. Outside of discussing magic with the Avatar, Altomar could also speak as to the situation in Moonglow, where the local column had twisted people's sensibilities such that they had become duplicitous and dishonest.
Later, once the Avatar had cleansed the Shrine of Compassion, Altomar would comment that the first circle of spells were once more available to magic users, and that they could now be properly bound to spellbooks. He went on to speculate that the magical disruptions were linked to the defiled shrines. [1]
Trivia[edit]
- Once Nico returns to Britain, Altomar may be found inside of the reagent shop, browsing through the merchandise.
- Altomar will mention that he thinks Nico's name is short for something, which may be a reference to the mage Nicodemus from prior Ultimas.[1]
- In the fan-made dialogue patch for Ultima IX, Nico talks names Nystul as the shop owner rather than Nico, and mentions that he is away in Valoria rather than Minoc.
