Transcript: Toede

Toede is a prisoner in Serpent's Hold during the time of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

Toede told the Avatar that he helped build the Palace of Blackthorn before being captured by the knights of Serpent's Hold after being shipwrecked on the Isle of Deeds. He thought Blackthorn to be a great man, and felt the Palace was the greatest and most indestructable creation in the history of Britannia. The bitter prisoner had designed the great trapdoors that riddled the Palace, and told the Avatar to think of him should the hero ever fall through one.[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Toede was haunted by the Shadowlords, and driven by an incessant urge to dig for Lord Blackthorn’s palace. The pitiful man praised Blackthorn, but feared the spectres that haunted him.[2]

Toede had helped construct the Palace of Blackthorn, and even created many of the traps before becoming shipwrecked on the Isle of Deeds and captured. Kurtz would describe how Toede had originally been sane, but working with the mortar of Blackthorn's Palace had driven him insane.[3]

The Avatar has the option to give Toede a lockpick in exchange for help after his release, but no help is ever received.
