Skull necessity[edit]

I know there's a common perception that the Skull of Mondain is gravy, but it seems to be essential, at least on some platforms. I was just playing the PC version and the principle of Virtue emblems didn't work until I used the skull. In this article, it has the skull listed at the end, which didn't seem to work for me. Pretty sure it is just gravy. I just recently started a playthrough myself on PC. I'll let you know if I can get partials without the skull. -- Fenyx4 20:11, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
Sorry completely forgot about this. Skull is just gravy. This speedrun skips the skull. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptGBLIJqRyU -- Fenyx4 03:12, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

Fast Travel Moongate Routes[edit]

Not yet optimized for speed, but merely minimizes the fewest number of gates (2). Speed would be preferred because passing turns can waste a lot of food, but even using the Ztats-cheat to pause food consumption while spinning the clock is bothersome; I'd rather rush through four gates than sit on my thumb for a few minutes. 50.107.148.103 19:18, 20 January 2019 (MST)

My son's school is closed tomorrow. I work from home, so this means I won't get much "work" done. So I might as well set up Floyd's Algorithm in C#, using moon phase counts as the weight/cost of each path segment, and possibly have a time-optimized table instead of the "2 jump max" table I whipped up. Or maybe not. He can be a handful, and my boss expects me to react damned near instantly if I get any tickets from the helpdesk. We'll see. 74.37.10.204 23:14, 22 January 2019 (MST)
There are only two paths which need optimization. It may actually be quicker/easier to travel through three gates for these, and thus waste less food and time. I won't be able to return to my work on this for another few weeks though. Uniblab (talk) 03:04, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Fast Travel Moongate Routes[edit]

Two years ago I updated the table for fewest jumps. This year I am updating the table for quickest "real world" time. Yes, we all know how to "pause" things to let the phases pass by using the Ztats trick, but today I'm looking at shortest time by trying to follow the natural cycle of the moons. Wish me luck! After much math, I have come to the conclusion there simply is no faster routes than already posted. This is because of the way that Felucca races ahead of Tammel; after just a few cycles Felucca is now "behind" Trammel. Once the two moons are off by several phases there is no choice but to wait. Therefore all the quick and speedy routes are in the beginning of the cycle, from Moonglow and Britain, and the slow routes are at the very end, Skara Brae or Magincia. Nice! Thank you! -- Fenyx4 03:12, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
