Phineus is a trainer that runns a fighting circle in Buccaneer's Den in Ultima IX.
Description[edit]
Phineus offered the Avatar battles against experienced fighters in unarmed combat for experience. The Avatar agreed to fight three men at once in the ring for the price of 300 gold pieces. After winning, Phineus offered two more rounds for 2000 and 5000 gold pieces each. Each round, the Avatar would be able to learn a new unarmed fighting technique.[1]

- The encounter has an exploit: enter the first round with a full inventory, then quit. For the price of 300 gold pieces, the Avatar would receive a valuable bag.
