Species: human
Appearances
Ultima Underworld II
Location: Anodunos

Mokpo is a man whose corporeal body may be found in ice wastes of Anodunos. He appears in Ultima Underworld II.

Description[edit]

Mokpo appeared to be suffering from profound mental illness, and would rave endlessly about his disdain for the illusory world of ice and shadows which he saw himself as inhabiting, preferring instead the colorful reality of the "True World" to which he believed himself a native. While many of his frenzied ramblings made little sense at first glance, the Avatar would find that Mokpo's visions reflected the plane of the Ethereal Void, and that an astral double of Mokpo did – in fact – exist there.

The hero could endeavor to convince the physical person of Mokpo to abandon his dreams of the ethereal realm and work towards bettering his life in Anodunos. An alternative could be to furnish the man with dream spice that he might be able to continue his voyages as an inter-planar psychonaut without disturbances from the material world.[1]

Lore[edit]

I, Mokpo the Mighty, am so pleased that Bishop saw fit to speak with me about the splendid country I inhabit! It has been so long since I have had a visitor here, not since the Time Lord's sojourn in the Shrine of Spirituality. There are many things I cannot tell you — I do not know why the Void looks the way it does, how it came about or what determines its structure. There are many who appear here, and disappear just as suddenly — they claim to be dreaming, and that all they see about them is unreal. And yet, they seem to me to be the unreal ones, as their existence rarely lasts more than an hour — perhaps they are merely random, temporary coagulations of the ether that surrounds us. I know not.

Trivia[edit]

  • Bishop managed to contact the psychic manifestation of Mokpo known as "Mokpo the Mighty" and recorded his description of the ethereal void in his work Gems of Enlightenment, which was created to help opponents of the Guardian navigate various planes which the Red Titan had influenced.[2]
  • Beatrice mentions that Mokpo was driven to the arctic wastes after his countrymen exiled him over his disturbing visions.[3]
