Man that's an ugly advertisement. I much preferred Origin's earlier ads. Dungy 07:03, 7 May 2011 (PDT)

You're not wrong, but I wince more at the low-brow-action marketing approach, which brings back memories of the Ed del Castillo development period. As contentious as U9 ended up becoming, it would have been even worse had he remained at the helm. --Terilem 14:57, 7 May 2011 (PDT)
While I also find the ad to be trash, I don't exactly know what the comment about the marketing era means. Since I live in Germany, I experienced only very little of the Ultima IX ad campaign. What exactly went wrong with it?--Tribun 15:22, 7 May 2011 (PDT)
I was just referring to the approach of taglines like "Everybody should live a little. Even if you get killed in the process," and "Take fantasy to extremes," strongly indicative of that period in U9's development when there was a marked emphasis on action-oriented gameplay. As I remember it, this was around the time of the infamous "heavy metal" trailer and Ed del Castillo conveying his design philosophy though quotes like, and I paraphrase, "Ultima isn't about baking bread. It's about killing the dragon and getting the girl." --Terilem 15:44, 7 May 2011 (PDT)
Ah, now I know what you mean. I have seen the trailer and the music still makes me wonder why they did that. And yeah, they propably just hired Castillo because he was the hottest item on the staff market but didn't ask if he actually was competent with the genre. I think that's a big reason why the game became the mess it is.--Tribun 15:52, 7 May 2011 (PDT)
