Xavier is a young theurgist on Argentrock Isle. He appears in Ultima VIII.
Description[edit]
Xavier was a brusque and to-the-point man, although Stellos claimed that his gruff exterior concealed a warm and compassionate heart.[1] When the Avatar began the process of learning Theurgy, it fell to him to instruct the hero in the initial trials of wisdom and centeredness, and he would thereafter direct to hero to consult with Stellos for further testing.[2]
Not long after the Avatar passed the third trial, one of Xavier's spell foci was stolen by Torwin, who hoped to amplify its power that he might resurrect his slain father, Toran. When the Avatar confronted the apprentice over the theft, Torwin made a desperate attempt to reach Stratos, herself, and threw himself into the unforgiving sea.[3] Xavier would grow even more somber at news the young man's death, although he would thank the Avatar for the return of his focus.
Later, after the Avatar stole Stratos' Breath of Air and severed the theurgists from the powers which let them work their magic, Xavier would denounce the hero for being selfish, but would refrain from taking action.[2]
Trivia[edit]
- Using the Hear Truth spell on Xavier will reveal that he is dismissive of Cyrrus and Torwin and is uncertain that they are cut out to be theurgists.[2]
