Wayne is a monk belonging to the Brotherhood of the Rose who has become lost in the Dungeon Despise in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
A scholar like Taylor, Wayne's field of expertise was ornithology, and he had a particular passion for the Golden-cheeked Warbler - to the extent that he would follow birds of that particular species deep into the forests. Unfortunately, Wayne was ill-prepared to navigate the woods into which he'd gone birding, and his lacking knowledge of geography and poor sense of direction had left him stranded in the tunnels near Despise's entrance.[1]
Should the Avatar encounter the lost cleric, Wayne would discuss his passion for studying fauna (especially birds) and would only grudgingly admit that he might not be equally adept at the art of navigation. Unwilling, however, to admit that he was in need of help, the monk remained in the caves indefinitely.[2]
Lore[edit]
“ | At the moment, we are the only two monks still here. Another brother of ours departed recently on a nature study. We are bit concerned, for Brother Wayne has yet to return. Of course, our house is always open should he come back or if others wish to join our number. – from Key to the Black Gate (Ultima VII)

Trivia[edit]
- Wayne is the author of the book Birds of Britannia. Curiously enough, this volume can also be found on the far-flung shores of Serpent Isle, despite its long separation from the lands of Britannia.[3][4]
- The Golden-cheeked Warbler (Dendroica chrysoparia) is a real bird native to central Texas, possibly near the region where Ultima VII was produced.[5] (The Black-Tipped Grackle and Silver-Winged Pharcelot mentioned in his book,[3] however, do not appear to have real world analogues.)
