Vilus was a mage of the Seers of the Moonstone. who turned traitor. He is mentioned in Ultima Underworld in the Stygian Abyss.
Description[edit]
Vilus used to be a brilliant Member of the Seers of the Moonstone, but his experiments with casting powerful magic without rune stone damaged his mind, his personality shifting towards darkness. After Tyball became the dictator of the level below, Vilus declared his loyalty to Tyball, turning traitor on the seers and stealing artifacts from them before erecting his own fortress in the northeastern part of the sixth level, protecting it with lava and many monsters.
The mage Ranthru wondered if the Avatar was in league with Vilus, but they honestly had not heard from the fiend in some time. Searching his domain, while the Avatar found the guards, Vilus was not found. A scroll however hinted, that Vilus was experimenting with summoning a powerful creature. Considering that Vilus was gone, it appeared the summoning had cost Vilus his life.
