This article is about the Lycaeum welcomer. For the proprietor of The Sleep Shop, see Tymus (Vesper).
Tymus is a stately mage living at the Lycaeum during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Tymus was in charge of welcoming travellers to the Keep of Truth. He would question the Stranger as to how many cities followed the principle of Truth. Should the hero answer correctly, Tymus would reveal that the rooms connecting the various dungeons each required four Virtue Stones to be set in within their altars.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Tymus can be identified with the ranger in the same location, who gives the same information.[2]
- According a document discovered by historians Robert DeMain and Carlotta Stein which purports to be the Avatar's personal diary, Tymus is described as a stately man, wearing a blue robe embroidered with green and purple designs, and holding a staff of black hardwood.[3]
- In Hiroyuki Watanabe's Ultima-inspired manga, The Fall of Magincia, Tymus is a yogi in the service of Lord Robert Frasier and at the time of the manga's story he has secluded himself from all human contact for the past twenty years to gain enlightened knowledge of the metaphysical conflict about to transpire. He breaks his isolation to request an audience with Lord British that he might explain to him the ongoing conflict between the Gods Vitor and Susadora. He is depicted as a small, balding man with long white hair who is constantly levitating.[4]
