Runes of Virtue[edit]

Hold up, good sir! Do we really want to add the Runes of Virtue stuff into the main articles as canon? IS it canon? I don't think it is. Let's talk about it! --Warder Dragon 19:17, 25 August 2011 (PDT)

If it's not canon, what is it? I mean, they were games made by Origin, they bear the Ultima name, and they're every bit as much canon as the Worlds of Ultima Series. Just because they're not very good, and really not popular with Ultima fans, doesn't make them less canon. Dungy 19:18, 25 August 2011 (PDT)
A non-canon spin-off, as I've always viewed them. I don't think they were ever intended to be part of the storyline. But, what do the rest of you think? --Warder Dragon 19:23, 25 August 2011 (PDT)
Hmm, tough call. I personally have never considered the RoV games canon either, but you have a valid point, Dungy. Having said that, adherence to that criteria does open up a grey area. After all, the SNES version of Ultima VII, with all its glaring discrepancies, was developed by Origin as well. I see no problem with at least putting the RoV stuff in Trivia sections, but at this point I do wonder about including it in the main articles. --Terilem 21:51, 25 August 2011 (PDT)
I guess my main point is that while I do agree that the Runes of Virtue games have a tangential connection to the core series, it is not enough to warrant inclusion as canon. Furthermore, I think we have a responsibility at the Codex to keep the articles coherent and understandable to new readers. I mean, do we really want to edit the Great Stygian Abyss article to reflect the fact that it has a pie factory in it, and the Avatar's companions needed to manipulate the production line so the pies went to the proper delivery area in order to progress? Or that trolls are very fond of ping pong and that the Avatar's companions needed to steal enchanted ping pong paddles from them to thwart the Black Knight, who kidnaps the eight mayors of Britannia and hides them in the depths of each dungeon so he can... piss off Lord British? Should we edit the Dr. Cat article to reflect the fact that he is, in fact, not a human but rather a cat-man? And so on and so on. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not thrilled about that idea. --Warder Dragon 05:01, 26 August 2011 (PDT)
Yikes. I think I'm going to have to now plant my foot firmly on the non-canon side of the argument. I draw the line at Abyssal pie factories and trolls playing ping pong. --Terilem 05:11, 26 August 2011 (PDT)
...But that stuff has got to go into the trivia section (or a seperate RoV section). Cuz that is hilarious! -- Fenyx4 07:10, 26 August 2011 (PDT)

Yeah, put it under Trivia.--Tribun 08:38, 26 August 2011 (PDT)

OK, I'll put future ROV stuff in a separate ROV section, and make it obvious it's non-canon. Dungy 12:17, 26 August 2011 (PDT)
