Shylock the Meek is a beggar plying for alms outside of the Lycaeum during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Shylock could be found outside the gates of the Keep of Truth, where he piteously begged for money. He claimed to have been afflicted with the black plague, and was desperately ill and cold. The Stranger had the opportunity to offer the poor man some coins in the hopes of improving his condition, but could do little more to assist him.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- Shylock's complaint of coldness is consistent with the symptoms of the bubonic plague, as chills commonly afflict sufferers within two to five days of infection. It is unknown if the poor man would have much hope of recovery, as the disease often proves fatal without proper treatment and antibiotics would not be discovered in Britannia for several centuries.
