Transcript: Lord Shalineth

Lord Shalineth is the master of the Lycaeum in the time of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

He provides important information for the Avatar's quest: the true name of the Shadowlord of Falsehood, which he divined through the use of great magic and scrying. He also warns that using the Shadowlord's name can draw his attention, and is the only way it could gain access to the keep – another useful thing to remember.[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.

Shalineth was the son of the first Lord and Lady of the Lycaeum – Robert and Beth Frasier, the rulers of the Lycaeum in Ultima IV. He had always lived in the Lycaeum, and dedicated his life to the study of Truth and magic. When his parents still ruled and he was old enough to travel alone, he journeyed throughout Britannia to learn more about the land, the Eight Virtues and people beyond Verity Isle. Some years after his return to Verity Isle his parents died of natural causes and Lord British sanctioned Shalineth's lordship of the Lycaeum.[2]

Shalineth admitted the keep mostly ran itself without his interference. The lord felt the sacred flame possessed its own consciousness much like the Shrines of the Virtues, and that it was possible to commune with this consciousness to learn the essence of Truth. Lord Shalineth had recently been meditating at the flame about the true name of the Shadowlord of Falsehood, Faulinei. Upholding the Principle of Truth, Lord Shalineth told the hero how this was used by the mages at the Lycaeum to sharpen their magical abilities. He assured the hero that this gave them great power, even over the creatures of darkness, and should one shout the true names of the Shadowlords, they would be forced to appear.

Quests[edit]

  • In Lazarus, Lord Shalineth will only provide the name of the Shadowlord of Falsehood once the Codex quest for the Shrine of Honesty has been completed.
