Sam is a bohemian florist who operates a small greenhouse in New Magincia during Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
Sam was the son of a wealthy nobleman whose love of material wealth alienated his free-spirited child. Opting to live a peaceful life bringing joy to others and studying the natural world, Sam left for New Magincia, where he sold bouquets from a small wagon and established a small greenhouse that he might cultivate more exotic botanicals.[1]
Sometime prior to the Avatar's journeys in New Magincia, Sam encountered the marooned gambler Robin, and his cohorts Battles and Leavell, and would mention how off put he had been by their violent mannerisms, being a pacifist. He would also recall that the peddler, Henry had stopped by around the same time – shortly before he had gone to court his sweetheart, Constance. Sam remembered that the young man had a beautiful locket that he had intended to give his beloved. He sent Henry on his way with a flower as an additional gift, but found out later that the poor youth had lost the jewelry soon after stopping by and that Constance had rejected him.[2]

Trivia[edit]
- Sam will be skeptical of the Avatar's identity, but not be inclined to argue the point.[4]
- Sam will voice his belief that Robin stole a bouquet from him. Constance can later inadvertently confirm this, gushing over the flowers she received from the roguish scoundrel.[2][5]
- Sam mentions that he is looking into the medicinal and health-related properties of wheatgrass, a plant well-known for its popularity amongst health food advocates and alternative medicine practitioners.[6]
