Riky, from Ultima VII
Species: human
Appearances
Ultima VII
Location: Shrine of Honor

Riky is the infant son of Lady Tory of Serpent's Hold. He can be encountered in Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

The only child born within the Keep of Courage for many years, Riky was well-loved by the knights of the Hold. His father is never mentioned, although Sir Richter appeared to have been romantically inclined towards his mother, and the boy's name may have been a variation on that of the handsome knight's.[1]

Some time after the scholar Anton's visit to Serpent's Hold in search of information, Riky was kidnapped by a wail of harpies who had overtaken the peninsula housing the Shrine of Honor, although it is unclear as to whether these bestial women wished to devour the infant or to raise it as their own. Should the Avatar learn of this crime, the hero would have the opportunity to slay the harpies and rescue the baby—who was still alive despite his ordeal—and Lady Tory would prove grateful and relieved to see him returned.[2][1]

Lore[edit]

I went to visit with Lady Tory to see if I couldst learn anything from her empathic abilities. Though I learned nothing useful, I was struck with the realization that her son was the only one that had been born to Serpent's Hold in many years. The boy is very dear. I do hope they take due effort to protect him from the hordes of harpies that inhabit the nearby islands, for those foul beasts love nothing more than the raw flesh of a young child.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Ultima VII the Avatar does not have to rescue Riky to complete the game, although the hero doing so is considered canonical, as Tory mentions the incident as having taken place during her appearance in Ultima Underworld II.[3]
  • The "baby" object used to represent Riky is unique to him, and Lady Tory will be understandably upset should she be offered the wrong child.[2]
  • It is impossible to put Ricky back into his crib in the unmodded game.
