Orlok is the proprietor of the Shattered Skull Tavern in Tenebrae. He appears in Ultima VIII.
Description[edit]
Orlok had previously worked as an exchequer under the Tempest and had embezzled sufficient funds to purchase a derelict torax barn on the western side of the town. After transforming the building into a tavern, Orlok worked to cultivate a colorful persona befitting a barkeep, and over time crafted an elaborate fictitious past for himself in which he was a pirate and adventurer. As he had a congenitally absent hand and had lost a leg in a woodcutting accident, he outfitted his body with an appropriate looking hook and peg-leg, and donned a specially crafted eyepatch which allowed him to covertly see through his "bad" eye.
Orlok could be virtually always found at the Shattered Skull, and would speak at length on any number of topics, regaling anybody who would listen with drawn out tales of his past exploits and fantastical rumors about Tenebrae's inhabitants. While most of his stories had a tenuous relationship with reality at best, his tale of ghosts haunting the hills north of the city contained a grain of truth, and the Avatar could investigate these claims and find the spirit in question.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- Orlok charges higher prices for ale than his barmaid, Jenna.
- Using the Hear Truth spell on Orlok will reveal that virtually all of his stories are false.
