Nanna is an elderly woman responsible for the management of the nursery in Castle Britannia during Ultima VII. She also appears in a more generic capacity as a domestic worker during Ultima Underworld II, where she leads the other castle workers in protesting their unjust societal position.

Description

Nanna came across as a grandmotherly and sweet woman, who had a genuine connection to the children she was responsible for. Beneath this sweet exterior, however, the elderly caretaker was deeply passionate about what she saw as an unfair economic and social climate in Britannia - feeling that while platitudes had been given regarding the "abolition of the class system" the country was very much striated between socio-economic groups. Objecting to the burdens wrought by increasing taxation and the natural advantages given to those tied to the former hereditary nobility, Nanna sought out change through then promising Fellowship, hoping that the philosophical society's dedication to ideals of "Unity" and "Brotherhood" might help to alter the corrupt system around her.

After the eventual revelation that the Fellowship was a tool of the malevolent Guardian, however, Nanna did not abandon her hopes for a better and more equalitative society, although she, like so many others quit the disbanded organization. During the Guardian's assault on Britannia in Ultima Underworld II, tensions between Lord British and the overburdened domestic staff of his castle came to an ugly head, with Nanna demanding respectful and compassionate treatment for the workers of the castle lest she lead them in a strike. The Avatar, imprisoned with all involved under the magical blackrock dome was able to eventually bring her grievances to the ears of the sovereign, who committed to making stark changing in dealing with his employees.

Trivia

• If Spark is present in the party during a conversation with Nanna he will complain about the smell of diapers.
• If interrupted during a Fellowship meeting Nanna will shoot the Avatar a glance that apparently remind the hero of a past elementary school teacher.
• Nanna reveals during Underworld II that the Guardian has tried to tempt her - claiming that under his rule her wishes for a fair society would at last be fulfilled. However, she rejects such offers, knowing the Guardian to be evil and untrustworthy.
