Mumb was a mage, who under the effects of the disturbed ether did an accidental feat of great magic before Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
Mumb was a mage of little real merit when the Tetrahedron Generator started to twist the ether around Britannia. As a result, Mumb's already limited powers got reduced even further until he only was good at fixing things while his mind started to detoriate. One day farmer Mack brought his broken old hoe to him for repair, while at the same time a fighter - who seemingly had not gotten the news of Mumb's current status - brought his sword to Mumb to enchant it as a "Sword of Death".
Seemingly in an act of insane confusion, Mumb managed to invoke powerful magicks - on Mack's hoe, turning it into the Hoe of Destruction, while the fighter's sword was reduced to being really good at cutting weeds. However Mumb did it, he took the secret to the grave, since the enraged fighter returned shortly later and murdered Mumb.

One of the most recent magic items created, this once ordinary hoe dates back to only a few years ago when one of the first mages (a bush mage of no real merit) to succumb to the illness that now plagues all mages, was asked to both repair a broken hoe for a local farmer and enchant a sword for a warrior. Unfortunately, his perhaps-never-to-be-repeated-enchantment has made this hoe one of the better melee weapons around today. This hoe can be distinguished by it distinctive red, glowing head. Be wary if thou dost ever face it. |
