Mikos is the foreman of the Covetous mine operated by the Britannian Mining Company (BMC) in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
A misanthropic loner, Mikos preferred the solitude of the mines to the tense politics of nearby Minoc, and was seldom seen above ground in the company of his fellow man, choosing even to sleep on the ground nightly near a headless camp to avoid the townfolk.[1] During the Avatar's travels through the region, the overseer was in the midst of a labor shortage, as several of the machines used for ore extraction had to be repaired, and the majority of Covetous' workers were therefore absent. The only active miners at the time were Malloy and Owings, who had been assigned a "special project" to keep them from interfering with operations, and Fodus, a lone gargoyle suffering from the effects of silver serpent venom use, who had been repeatedly drugged to keep him working.[2]
Should the hero confront Mikos about Fodus' treatment, the foreman would grow defensive, asserting that gargoyles typically shirk their responsibilities. At this point the supervisor would ask the Avatar to leave the mine, citing the hero's disruptive influence.[3]
While the bleak situation of Fodus' exploitation could not be addressed at the time, eventually the BMC would be the subject of labor reforms.[4]
