Lothian is a Necromancer of Pagan, who eventually cedes her position to her apprentice Vividos in the course of Ultima VIII.
Description[edit]
Lothian was a stoic and withdrawn woman who was nearing the end of her life at the time of the Avatar's arrival on Pagan. Due to Mordea's theft of her order's ritual dagger, old age and sickness were threatening to claim her life before Vividos could perform the Ceremony of Eternity on her behalf, leaving her young Scion deeply anxious.
After the Avatar managed to locate and return the dagger on the necromancers' behalf, Lothian went to her rest in the midst of the rite Lithos had prescribed for his stewards - with Vividos plunging the ceremonial blade into her breast as she lay upon an altar. Later, it would fall to the Avatar to inter her remains on behalf of the Mountain King, as the hero had been taken by Vividos as his own apprentice.[1]
Lore[edit]
“ | Lothian is the strong and stoic Necromancer, quite competent in her abilities to convey the deceased to Lithos. She has little opportunity to converse with the citizens of nearby Tenebrae; her work keeps her so tremendously occupied. The townspeople are, however, friendly to her new Apprentice, Vividos. His vivacious personality is a good complement to Lothian's, making it easy for him to deal with the world outside the distasteful realm of the cemetery. – from The Chronicle of Pagan (Ultima VIII)

Trivia[edit]
- Lothian's legacy as a Necromancer is the Call Quake spell, and instructions for this incantation may be found in her chambers.[2]
- Lothian's sickness seems to be a rather recent development, since Bentic speaks in The Chronicle of Pagan how he'd contacted her for information about the magic of Necromancy and got all the information he needed.
