Kaiko is a farmer living in New Magincia during the events of Ultima V.
Description[edit]
Kaiko showed a dislike for the regime of Lord Blackthorn. She explained that while the Magincian farmers would never take more than their share and would like to use the rest of their yield to feed the hungry, the Shadowlords claimed half of their harvest. She also told the Avatar the story of how Hassad of the Great Council had sought refuge in New Magincia and lived there for a long time, before the Shadowlords found him and imprisoned him within the dungeon of Blackthorn's palace.[1]
Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, the quiet Kaiko worked as the local provisioner, buying supplies from the merchant ships when they docked once a month, and selling them to the local farmers and occasional adventurer who passed by.[2]
Kaiko remarked that the Avatar probably thought of New Magincia as a bit of a backwater, but she felt that the island received visitors from all over the land, for even now Lewis an adventurer on the Quest of the Avatar was staying at The Humble Palate. Still, she told the hero most of the citizens were humble farmers who were content with eking out what living they could by working the land, unlike Lord Blackthorn.
Kaiko became animated when asked about Blackthorn, calling him an usurper who took away half of what they earned from the land, and who imprisoned all who had knowledge of the ancients. She was upset that the Oppression had arrested Lord Windemere, who had originally established the community of New Magincia, and Hassad, the former Great Council member from Skara Brae who had spent some time on the island after Blackthorn's rise to power. Kaiko told the hero how the Shadowlords had found Hassad at last on the island, and pleaded with the Avatar to travel to the Palace of Blackthorn and free him. Lord Windemere had been freed by his fellow members of the the Great Council, and had retreated to his own keep, where he was assailed by Blackthorn's men and slain.
