Transcript: Julio

Julio is a solemn bard living in Britain during the time of Ultima IV.

Description[edit]

For reasons unknown, Julio could be found sequestered within a hidden passage in the building which housed Wound Healing. Sought after by the druid Shapero, Julio carried wisdom of the true nature of compassion, and if asked about the virtue, would reveal to the Stranger that "Compassion derives itself from unending love!"[1]

After imparting such information, Julio would ask if the aspirant hero knew the true nature of all things, decrying with accusations of lying and bragging if presuming to answer in the affirmative.

Trivia[edit]

NES remake
  • In the supposed journal of the Avatar discovered by historians Robert de Main and Carlotta Stein, Julio's cell is described as containing a desk at which he is in the midst of composing an unknown document when the Stranger encounters him. While discussing compassion with him, the hero also mentions briefly that Shapero is seeking him out, which the bard briefly acknowledges.[2]
  • In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (Japanese original), Julio can be identified as a shepherd in the same secret room. This character was removed in the English localization, and the secret room he would normally occupy contains a staircase leading to a room on the upper floor, that is anyway empty.[3]
